Prosthetic Eye Adjustments

Adjustments may be needed to your prosthetic eye whether it be color, size or fit.  These adjustments can be made in one appointment, some taking longer than others.  A reduction in size can take very little time where as any color adjustment or enlargement can take over 2 hours.  Our number one goal is to make our patients happy, so whichever adjustment you are looking for, we are more than happy to make your custom make the way YOU want it.

Types of Adjustments:

  • Reduction – Cutting away material from the prosthesis to make it smaller in volume.  If your prosthesis feels too tight, painful or bulging, you may need to schedule a reduction appointment.  This may take as little as 30 minutes.
  • Enlargement – Adding more material to the anterior or posterior of the prosthesis to make it larger in volume.  If your lid is drooping or your prosthesis looks too small in the mirror, you may want to schedule an enlargement.  These can take as long as 3 hours, but 2 hours of that being wait time.
  • Color Adjustment – Lightening or darkening or the iris and/or sclera.  These appointments typically take about 3 hours as well.
